Education & Training
Meet the Physician
"My love for all things eyes stems from a very early experience."
As an infant, I was diagnosed with both strabismus and amblyopia. Thankfully, I underwent successful patching and surgical treatment. As a result, I visited my ophthalmologist annually – and fell in love with the specialty.
I always wanted to be a doctor, and I attended the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. After graduation, I was awarded a prestigious residency at The Harkness Eye Institute at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, where I developed my medical and surgical skills under some of the most preeminent ophthalmologists in the world.
After my residency, I was accepted as a Fellow in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Ocular Oncology at the Hospital for Sick Children at the University of Toronto – furthering my training at one of the very finest hospitals specializing in all aspects of pediatrics.
A lifelong New Yorker, I grew up in Riverdale and attended The Bronx High School of Science. An alumna of Barnard College, I graduated cum laude, majoring in Music History. I play three instruments – flute, piano, and cello – but my first love has always been ophthalmology.
I have been in practice for over 35 years and continue to love what I do, especially forging lasting relationships with all of my patients, old and new.

At what age should a child have a complete eye exam?
It is recommended that a complete exam by an ophthalmologist take place when the child starts pre-school. I will put drops in the child's eyes to view the retina and determine whether glasses are needed. If glasses are prescribed, annual visits are recommended; if not, every 3–4 years is typically sufficient.
At what age should an adult have a complete eye exam?
For a healthy patient with no medical problems, a full annual ophthalmologic exam should begin at age 35. If there is a family history of glaucoma or macular degeneration, exams should begin several years earlier. Early diagnosis leads to significantly better visual outcomes.
